Abstract:

This study aimed to investigate the effects of Lactococcus lactis L22 (L. lactis L22) on the growth performance, immune function, and antioxidant capacity of loach (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus). A total of 360 loaches with an initial body weight of (3.53±0.02) g were fed for 8 w with basal diets supplemented with L. lactis L22 at concentrations of 0 (control group), 1.0×10?, 1.0×10?, 1.0×10?, and 1.0×10? CFU/g, respectively. Growth indicators, body composition, serum biochemical parameters, immune indices, antioxidant enzyme activities, and related gene expression were measured. The results showed that the final body weight, weight gain rate, specific growth rate, protein efficiency, and feed efficiency in the 1.0×10? and 1.0×10? CFU/g supplementation groups were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The crude protein and crude lipid contents in the whole fish were significantly increased in the 1.0×10? CFU/g group (P<0.05). Serum levels of AST, ALT, TBA, TG, CHOL, and GLU were significantly reduced in the 1.0×10?-1.0×10? CFU/g groups, while HDL-C was significantly increased (P<0.05). In the 1.0×10? CFU/g group, serum levels of complement C3, lysozyme (LYS), and immunoglobulin M (IgM) were significantly elevated (P<0.05). The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and glutathione-S-transferase (GST) in the liver and intestine were significantly enhanced, while malondialdehyde (MDA) content was significantly reduced (P<0.05). Meanwhile, the expression of nrf2, ho-1, nqo1, and gsh-px genes was significantly up-regulated in the 1.0×10? CFU/g group (P<0.05). In conclusion, dietary supplementation with L. lactis L22 at 1.0×10? CFU/g significantly promotes growth, enhances immunity, and improves antioxidant capacity in loach.
